Ever wanted to make your own leather bag ? Learn traditional leather working skills in an incredible environment ? Well now you can, due to a huge number of requests, Holden Leathergoods will be holding a 5 Day Leather Bag Making Workshop from 10th - 14th Apr 2017.
Under the guidance of Conor Holden, this five day “hands on” course is specifically designed to equip the participant with the necessary skills and knowledge, to enable them to make a bag from the Holden collection from scratch to finish, in a workshop environment.
The course is intensive and practical and will include cutting, preparing, sewing and assembly. It will provide a real insight into the manufacturing process in a workshop where bags have been designed and made for over 27 years.
The course is suitable for people with some or no previous experience. It runs for 5 days and starts with a tour of the workshop and detailing of the machinery and tools used. Followed by different types of leathers and the different types of handbag construction.
Some time is spent working on smaller pieces of production work to build up practice and confidence before choosing the leathers, lining materials and fittings to make a bag.
Each participant selects and hand cuts their own materials, assembles and stitches their own piece (under instruction) and at the end of the week takes away the bag they have made.
The program includes aspects of knowledge of the materials (quality of the leather and tanning techniques), cutting of the leather by hand and by machine, bench assembly and stitching, finishing and fittings.
All this takes place in the idyllic setting of our workshop, an old schoolhouse from 1931 on the shores of Dingle Harbour.
To ensure the maximum return and guidance for each participant, each course will be limited to 6 students.
Dates : 10th - 14th Apr 2017
Duration : 5 Days. Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
Location : Holden Leathergoods, The Old Schoolhouse Dingle, Co.Kerry
Fees : €800.00 including materials are payable in advance.

"I have had the best week ever doing the Handbag making course with Conor, Cahill, Satu and my crazy bunch of fellow students! I have learned so much and cannot rave enough about the talent, patience, hospitalit y, skills and humour of the Holden crew!!! I have also made the most amazing bag and everyone absolutely loves it. With or without previous experience , every student went home with a handmade bag, made from scratch, with a profession al finish and fabrics and finishes reflecting their individual personalit ies. Thank you so much for an amazing week and experience . I have come away with not only a stunning bag, but a wealth of knowledge, new friends and a new found love of Dingle ;) See you soon guys xxx " Bronagh Holmes

" Holden Leathergoods epitomises what's best of Ireland's traditional craft skills. Conor's generosity in sharing his wide knowledge and experience in leather craft makes for a wonderful learning experience where both those familiar with the craft and the completely uninitiated enjoy the production process and come away with a nag they can be proud of. I highly recommend this course " Jillian Mahon
"In one of the world's most beautiful areas, Dingle Peninsula in the Republic of Ireland, Connor Holden is bringing smiles to the face of people from all around the world as he creates gorgeous handbags of the highest possible quality from his beautique workshop overlooking Dingle Harbour.
These creations are the result of more than 25 years experience at the pinnacle of the leather goods industry. Conor shares his creativity with students from around the world in his week long courses.
Individual tuition with a focus on the skill building of the students creates the ideal atmosphere for them to craft their own hand crafted bags from a colorful selection of Italian leather.
In a very well planned week the structure of the bag slowly emerges from its many components with the specialised skill requirements carefully explained, demonstrated and applied.
In this way the smiles are extended beyond the eyes of the customers of the boutique into the wider world after the students have graduated successfully from the wonderful weeks course.
Thank you Conor! " Kelvyn Prescott
